OpenBoxes v0.9.3 - Release Notes (December 2024)

Dear OpenBoxes Community,

We are thrilled (finally!) to announce the release of OpenBoxes v0.9.0 v0.9.1 v0.9.2 0.9.3!

You can read more about v0.9.3 (as well as each of the previous 0.9.x releases) below:

As discussed in a post in the Fall of 2024 (Upgrading to Openboxes v0.9.x), the v0.9.x release required an upgrade to several core dependencies of OpenBoxes, namely Java, MySQL, and Tomcat.

OpenBoxes 0.8.x OpenBoxes 0.9.x
Ubuntu 18.04 Ubuntu 22.04
Java 7 Java 8
MySQL 5.7 MySQL 8 or MariaDB 10.x
Tomcat 7 Tomcat 9

Therefore, you must upgrade these dependencies before deploying the latest version of OpenBoxes.

We have outlined several upgrade options (In-Place vs Parallel) that can be followed using our Upgrade documentation. We highly recommend that you follow the Parallel Upgrade path in order to allow time for thorough testing and to reduce downtime when switching over to the new version. However, we acknowledge that this approach takes more time and requires you to create a new production environment so it might not be possible for everyone.

If you have any questions about either migration path, please reach out here or on Slack (slack.openboxes.com). If you’d like help with the upgrade, send us a Quote Request with information about your current OpenBoxes implementations (i.e. current version, hosting provider, any other curious things you think we should know) and we’ll provide an estimate on how much it will cost to perform the upgrade.

So without further ado … :drum: … to get started with your migration to OpenBoxes v0.9.3

  1. Download the latest release from our GitHub Releases page
  2. Head over to our Upgrade Guide for instructions on how to complete the migration.

Lastly, we would like to express our gratitude to all of you for your continued support, feedback, and patience.

TTFN,

Justin
