Openboxes v0.9.x - Call for Volunteers

Dear OpenBoxes Community,

First the good news
The 0.9.x release has been stable since earlier this year. Woohoo!

Here are the release notes for each of the first three minor releases.

Now for the bad news
The migration path from 0.8.x to 0.9.x is significantly more complicated than previous releases and requires substantial technical expertise to complete. Therefore, we haven’t officially released any of these versions to the community because we’ve been updating our system documentation to ensure the upgrade process is well-documented and easy to follow.

Call for Volunteers
So, we need your help to validate the migration process.

We’re inviting volunteers to help us test our updated migration documentation. Your input will be critical to ensuring a smooth and successful upgrade for all users.

If you’re interested in volunteering, here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Test the Migration Guide: Follow our Migration Guide to upgrade your current OpenBoxes instance to 0.9.x using a test environment.
  • Report Issues: Let us know if you run into any issues, unclear instructions, or areas that need improvement.
  • Provide Feedback: Share your thoughts on how we can enhance the guide to be more user-friendly and complete.

If you’d like to volunteer to test the migration guide, please reply to this post (or email support@openboxes.com) and we’ll contact you directly with more details. We’ll provide support and guidance throughout the process.

Upgrade Support
Alternatively, for those who would prefer assistance with the migration process, we’re also offering a paid support option where our team will handle the migration for you. We’ll also provide 30 days of post-migration support in case issues arise once the new version is in production.

The migration support option includes:

  • System assessment (review configuration, tune performance, harden security)
  • Backup and risk mitgation strategies
  • Performing the migration with minimal disruption
  • Post-migration testing to ensure everything works perfectly
  • Fixing bugs and performance issues identified during the migration
  • Ongoing support (30 days) to ensure everything runs smoothly

Annual Support
Another option to consider: Every upgrade is included for free (“free gratis” for Deadwood fans) with our annual support packages. You also get expert troubleshooting, on-going server monitoring, priority issue resolution, regular server maintenance, and personalized guidance to keep your system running smoothly.

If you’re interested in the upgrade or annual support package, please contact us at support@openboxes.com for more details, including cost and time estimates on the migration process.

Note: We have been upgrading partner implementations since earlier this year so with a support plan you can get started migrating to 0.9.x as soon as you’d like.

With Love,

OpenBoxes Support
